Cake on Demand
Personal confession: I buy stupid crap I don’t need.
But when I have it, by golly, I USE IT.
Case in point: this “donut hole maker” I ordered. Stupid. The phrase “single-use appliance” comes to mind.
But then I got to thinking: if this thing could turn cake batter into globe-shaped cakes suitable for skewering, and could do so in the span of 5 minutes, then this stupid single-use appliance might serve a very useful purpose — namely, allowing the creation single-serving cake pops ON DEMAND.

Granted, it helps to have icing ready and waiting, too. Watch for my ultra-low-carb butter cream icing later this week.
So far, the device has been living up to its promise: I made ultra-low-carb red velvet cake batter (recipe coming soon!) and turned it into the cake “globes” that you see here.
Total time from batter to cake in mouth: 10 minutes.
Other uses of the device I shall be calling the “globe press” just to confuse and distract my enemies will include tako-yaki, the famous Japanese street food, for which you could easily replace the starch-based batter with something more keto-friendly.
What else should I try with this thing? Certainly I will be working on some high-glycemic foods as well, e.g. 5-minute dinner rolls you could make from frozen dough. I am all about making it super easy to apportion out exactly how much food you need while still being able to eat fresh food all of the time.
So, suggestions welcome! Oh, and you can get your own “donut hole maker” either from ThinkGeek.com or from Amazon.com (free shipping if you have Prime).
